MHPS CLASSIFIED STAFF HIGHLIGHT: Mr. David Hirsh Mr. Davis Hirsh has been a staple across the district for the past 20 years as a valued member of our maintenance department. While most of us know David around campus, many don’t know that in addition to his myriad talents at work, he’s also a lifelong musician. David got his first guitar when he was 10 years old, and he doesn’t remember a time he wasn’t singing. He played and sang in church for decades and has been a member of several bands – including some with his wife. He has enjoyed playing many gigs in a variety of venues, at special events like Hootin’ an Hollarin’, and he will soon play a show for veterans in Gainesville. David prefers playing folk and easy rock music, and he said he doesn’t take requests. “I’m a stickler for playing the music I want to play,” he said. “I just don’t listen when someone yells out from the crowd that they want to hear a certain song.” Over the years, David has had the pleasure of mixing his career and his passion for music. “I’ve gotten to do demos with kids at Hackler,” he said. “During Arkansas Week I have gotten to teach the kids about Bluegrass roots and talk about Johnny Cash, who was from Arkansas.” David can play a variety of instruments and has been honored to share them all with students at MHPS. We appreciate David for his dedication in our maintenance department, but we also appreciate him using his personal talents to enhance the learning and the lives of our students.

We are heartbroken to learn about the tragic passing of several members of a local family — one who was a precious elementary school student at MHPS. We do not have any details related to the matter, but we are holding this family close to our hearts as they navigate the unthinkable. We have visited with all the families of this child’s classmates and will have lots of counseling support on campus tomorrow. There is no good way to navigate such a sad situation, but our counseling staff and our faculty are all committed to helping our kids.
