Big news for students now enrolled in concurrent courses: New legislation in Arkansas makes concurrent credit courses (which allow high school students to earn both high school and college credit for the same course) weighted in the calculation of a student’s GPA. In simple terms, concurrent classes will now be weighted on a 5.0 scale (this is not retroactive). Contact your counselor if you have questions!

The Arkansas "Bell to Bell, No Cell Act" mandates a phone-free learning environment in all public schools, starting with the 2025-2026 school year. This means students must keep personal electronic devices like cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and laptops turned off and put away from the first bell to the last bell of the school day.

Congratulations to the 25 educators in our district who will receive merit incentive funds this year from the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education! According to DESE’s website, the LEARNS Act (Act 237 of the 2023 Regular Session) established the Merit Teacher Incentive Fund Program, also known as Merit Pay, to recognize and reward Arkansas's outstanding educators. The program's primary goals are to retain high-performing teachers in classrooms across the state and enhance teacher recruitment and retention in priority (e.g., mentors) and critical shortage areas.  Each of the educators who has received merit pay qualified in at least one of the following areas: • Demonstrate outstanding growth in student performance; • Are employed in subject, geographic, and other critical shortage areas • Serve as a mentor to aspiring teachers participating in yearlong residencies. This is a major accomplishment, and we're so proud of our educators for committing to excellence in education -- every student, every time.
